1783 Mo Mexico 8 Reale El Cazador Shipwreck Bellevue Rare Coins from www.bellevuerarecoins.com Introduction this is one of four interrelated washington tokens of which three bear the date 1783 and two have the designation of one cent. Its design is very similar to a 1776 continental currency dollar coin that was produced in pattern pieces as potential continental currency but was never circulated. Large cents have now come to be known as pennies, but when they were first produced this name was as foreign as the coin itself. There are three or four fly specks on the obverse and a few on the reverse which probably keep the coin from a higher mint state grade. This token, the double head washington cent, has no date but the bust bears a close resemblance to the one used on the washington military bust token.
